More about this collection

Nubuck shoes for men and women

Nubuck is grain-side leather sanded to a short, fine nap. It feels close to suede but is tougher, because the grain is still there underneath. Oiled nubuck has extra oils worked in, which helps it handle spray and damp. That makes it a natural fit for deck shoes, and this collection is mostly Orca Bay.

Deck and boat shoes

  • Men's lace-ups: the Orca Bay Creek in sand and russet brown, the Augusta, and the Squamish, all in sand nubuck.
  • Men's slip-ons: the Mule in sand oiled nubuck, the Fripp deck loafer, and the Fowey, a wide slip-on deck shoe.
  • Ladies: the Creek, the Bay and the Schooner in navy nubuck.

Driving shoes and sandals

The Orca Bay Silverstone driving shoe comes in sand nubuck. For warm weather there are the Tahiti and Aruba sandals and the Belize and Bora leather flip-flops, the Belize on a cushioned rubber sole.

Looking after nubuck

Treat it like suede: no wax polish. Brush it dry to lift the nap, and use a protector spray to help keep out water and marks. After wear, cedar shoe trees hold the shape. Our nubuck care guide has the full routine, and shoe protectors and cleaners has the products.

Nubuck FAQ

What is the difference between nubuck and suede?

Nubuck is sanded on the outer grain side, suede on the inner flesh side. Nubuck has a finer nap and is usually harder wearing.

Can nubuck deck shoes get wet?

Deck shoes are made for life near water. Let them dry naturally away from heat, then brush the nap back up.

Is there a wide fitting?

The Fowey is sold as a wide slip-on deck shoe. For more, see men's wide footwear.
