Sanders Monk Strap Shoes

A monk shoe closes with a strap and buckle rather than laces. It is smart enough for a suit, yet it stands apart from a row of plain Oxfords.

Single or double monk

  • Rome: a single monk in black leather, Goodyear welted. One buckle and clean lines make it the more formal of the two.
  • Alex: a double monk with two straps, in black calf or brown suede. The black suits business wear. The brown suede is easier with chinos, flannels and a jacket.

Looking after monk shoes

Undo the buckles to put the shoes on and take them off. Forcing the foot in with the straps done up stretches the strap holes and breaks down the heel counter.
