Two makers, two jobs

Sanders has made shoes in Northampton since 1873. Its range covers Oxfords, Derbies, brogues, loafers, monk shoes and boots, many Goodyear welted, on leather, Dainite, crepe and commando soles. Fittings such as F, G and H are given in the product title where stated.

Orca Bay covers the casual side: deck shoes, driving loafers, sneakers, sandals, slippers, walking shoes and boots, in leather, nubuck and suede, for men and women.

Which sole should I choose?

A leather sole is light and traditional for formal shoes. Dainite and other rubber soles grip better in the wet. Crepe is soft and cushioned for dry days, and a commando sole has deep lugs for mud and grass.

What if standard shoes feel tight?

Look for a wider fitting rather than a longer size. Wide fit Orca Bay deck shoes and G and H fit Sanders styles give more room across the forefoot and instep.

Do I need shoe trees?

For leather shoes you wear often, yes. Cedar shoe trees help the leather dry in shape after each wear and keep creases shallow, so the shoes last longer.
