Nubuck Shoe Care Guide: How to Clean & Protect Nubuck Leather
Nubuck shoes offer a premium, velvety finish that looks sophisticated but requires proper care to maintain their soft texture and colour. Unlike full-grain leather, nubuck is sanded to create a fine nap, making it more susceptible to dirt, stains, and moisture. Follow this step-by-step guide to keep your nubuck shoes in excellent condition.
1. Brush Off Surface Dirt & Dust
A nubuck brush is the best tool for keeping your shoes looking fresh. We recommend using a Carthcart Elliot Nubuck Brush, specially designed for delicate cleaning.
- Start with the rubber side: Gently rub the surface in a circular motion to lift dirt and dust.
- Use the bristle side for deeper cleaning: Lightly brush in the same direction as the nap to remove stubborn grime and restore texture.
✅ Pair your nubuck brush with a set of cedar shoe trees to maintain the shape of your shoes.
2. Removing Stains from Nubuck
For Light Stains & Scuffs:
- Use a nubuck rubber fingered eraser/brush (or a clean pencil eraser) to gently rub away small marks.
- Avoid excessive pressure to prevent damage to the nap.
For Water Stains:
- Dampen a clean microfiber cloth with a small amount of water and gently rub the entire shoe to prevent water spots.
- Stuff the shoes with cedar shoe trees and allow them to air dry naturally (never use a radiator or direct heat).
For Oil or Grease Stains:
- Sprinkle cornstarch or talcum powder over the stain and leave it overnight to absorb the grease.
- The next day, brush the area gently with a nubuck brush.

3. Protect with a Nubuck Protector Spray
To keep your nubuck shoes looking their best and shield them from stains, use a nubuck protector spray:
- Hold the spray about 20cm away and apply an even coat.

- Reapply every few weeks or after exposure to rain.

4. Restoring & Maintaining the Nap
Over time, nubuck can appear flattened or shiny. To restore its soft, matte finish:
- Brush with a nubuck brush to lift the nap after cleaning.
- Steam your shoes lightly by holding them above a kettle or using a steam iron from a safe distance to soften the fibres, making them easier to restore.
✅ Using a shoe horn prevents excessive creasing at the heel, helping to maintain the structure of your nubuck shoes.
5. Proper Storage & Long-Term Care
- Store your nubuck shoes in a breathable cotton shoe bag to prevent dust buildup.
- Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Insert cedar wood shoe trees to absorb moisture and maintain their shape.

But these mules ,with the skinny "plastic" soles, seem cheap. Not what i anticipated.

I personally have a pair of these and find them remarkably robust and solid and use them daily. The soles are the usual robust razor cut rubber deck shoe soles and the footbed is very solid and padded. Did you review the correct product?
Well made but sizing an issue. Recently bought trainers size 43 which fit fine but these Silverstone are far too long.

Trainer 43 vs driving-shoe 43 are not equivalent garments. Trainers (especially modern athletic lasts) often use generous, rounded toe boxes and sometimes run a half-size large. A traditional driving moccasin uses a slimmer, more elongated last with a pointed toe profile — so two shoes labelled '43' can sit very differently against the same foot. The Silverstone's last is shaped for the driving-heel pivot, which exaggerates the apparent length at the toe.

Well made leather walking shoes, comfortable and waterproof, tho the brass badge is unnecessary. Nice deep chestnut colour. The laces are a little short and the sole picks up a lot of mud, otherwise very happy.

So i was in the market for a new pair of slippers, as my old trusty pair of sheep skin Mocs from M&S were well past their sell by date. having purchased a pair of Orca boots earlier on in the year from CE and noted their collection of similar slippers, i naturally gravitated towards them for my replacement ordering was easy and i was kept well informed via email of the progress of my order. Slippers arrived exactly as advertised and i am most impressed by how substantial they are when compared to the pair they are replacing. So thank you .
Quality vs price is unmatchable. True to size but will need to break in the leather, better to be snug & naturally stretch to form to your feet.

Beautifully made, high quality leather (leather lined as well). I have very sensitive feet and find them very comfortable and supportive - elegant as well, and perfect for the office. Not for wide feet though. Excellent value for money, like all ORCA shoes.
